After Your Reiki Session
Your energy has shifted. Here’s how to support your body, mind, and spirit as it integrates.
It is so common after a Reiki session to have questions, to wonder what you will feel like, to see if you will find answers to the questions you brought within the session. We come to a Reiki session searching for peace, calm, and clarity but sometimes what we receive after can surprise us.
What you may experience is varied and I’ve broken down some possibilities below although these are just possibilities. Everyone is unique and has their own unique response to energy healing and cleansing.
I always love to think back to the example that was shared with me by one of my teachers. If we think of our physical and energetic bodies like a stream, when we have a Reiki session we are letting energy flow through and move the water as it cleans and purifies. But sometimes, in moving the water we actually stir a lot up and the water can become cloudy. In time though, the cloudiness moves out of us or settles and the water becomes even clearer than before.
Let go of any expectations, be open, and be gentle with yourself. When we experience Reiki we always receive exactly what we need and what we can handle to be stirred up in that exact moment.
What You Might Feel
After a Reiki session, everyone responds a little differently. Some common experiences include:
- A deep sense of calm or peace
- Emotional release (tears, laughter, or unexpected feelings)
- Feeling lighter, clearer, or more aligned
- Increased fatigue or sleepiness as your body resets
- Vivid dreams or intuitive insights
- Better sleep
- Less anxiety or worry
How to Support Yourself Moving Forward
Give yourself some time and space to honor whatever may unfold for you. These simples practices can help support your body, mind, and spirit and allow you to stay grounded and open.
- Stay hydrated – just like after a massage the therapist tells you “you’ve moved a lot around, help your body flush out the toxins your muscles released and drink a lot of water” Reiki is the same. You’ve allowed your body to shift a lot of energy and staying hydrated keeps your channels clear and your cells happy and hydrated to do their work.
- Journal or reflect – write down any thoughts or feelings that seem to be coming up. You may begin to notice a pattern or a sense of clarity.
- Spend time in nature – Mother Earth is a great healer. After we’ve moved a lot of our energy, grounding by being outside in nature is a beautiful way to help our bodies stay calm and aligned as our energy settles.
- Rest and listen – you may feel like your body needs extra rest. Allow yourself downtime without guilt. This is part of the healing.
- Follow your intuition – you’ve cleared your energy of junk and blocks that have potentially kept you from feeling clarity. Trust yourself and what comes up. Pay attention to any nudges, feelings, or dreams that wouldn’t normally have caught your attention before.
- Do not attach or judge – sometimes what comes up after a session may surprise us. Do not judge yourself or get too attached to an idea or insight. Let them come in, take note, and let them go – trusting that if it’s meant for you it will make itself even more clear.
